A Lover’s Eyes ©2011 Marshall Brodeur
The other day, as I often do
I found myself just looking at you
As a man might gaze at a work of art
Paying special attention to his favorite part
But this time, to my surprise
I was looking through a lover’s eyes
Time sneaks by and some things change
Once was familiar Now – feels – strange
I catch myself in the middle of the day
Thinking about you in a different way
Than I have in a long long while
And the wonder makes me smile
But on this Never Ending Circle
Made to look like “day to day”
Are we taking life for granted
Like it’s all paper Mache
We might someday
Just throw away
The other day as I often do
I found myself just looking at you
Like a man might gaze at a debutant
While trying to act all nonchalant
And I wondered to my surprise
If you still see me through a lovers eyes
Before you there were some players
In this musical called “Me”
Loving leading ladies
Always temporarily
But when you came into my life
I needed you to be my Wife
For reasons still unfolding yet today
You are the greatest treasure
That life could have given me
Acting as my compass
Always pointing me to Be
The Soul I’m meant to be
And just plain loving me
The other day as I often do
I found myself just looking at you
Like a man might look
At a magic book
No other man can see
But there is no secret or disguise
I’m simply looking through a lover’s eyes
The other day as I often do
I found myself just looking at you
