A Fire In the Heart©2009 Marsh Brodeur
As I watch the evening news
While some images do sting
I also see ordinary people
Doing extraordinary things
And I can’t help but ask myself
What sets these folks apart?
But eventually it came to me
They all have a fire in the heart
Everybody has a little pilot light
Some people call them souls
If you feed that light and treat it right
It will help you reach your goals
But there are some folks out there
With such intense desire
They grow their little pilot lights
Into an all consuming fire
When regular people
do amazing things
Or when the Artist paints
Or the Singer sings
When the Poet writes
Or the Teacher teaches
When the Soldier fights
When the Preacher preaches
When the Police Officer risks her life
When lovers commit to Partners For Life
What sets these folks apart?
They all have a fire in the heart
Sometimes we only drift through life
And we’re only half aware
Half Awake
Half hearted
Essentially, half there
The other half is dreaming about
All the things we’d rather be doing
And we stay at a job that’s wearing us out
For the vacation time were accruing?
I don’t think we’re on this drive
Just to sleep behind the wheel
When your on vacation you feel so alive
Well that’s how every day should feel
Why not just try to find your fire
Your passion, your cause, your art
You will amaze and you will inspire
If you can feel the fire in your heart.
When regular people do amazing things
Or when the Artist paints
Or the Singer sings
When the Poet writes
Or the Teacher teaches
When the Soldier fights
When the Preacher preaches
When the Police Officer risks his life
When lovers commit as Partners For Life
What sets these folks apart?
They all have a fire in the heart
