MAKE IT UP©2010                                  Marsh Brodeur

Turns out I was cooler than I thought I was
I lost the fuzz, caught a buzz, rumor was
I had it goin’ on for days

But I can remember how it felt back then
A bad self image hid behind the grin
But all that changed when I got up on the stage

Thank you very much I’ll take of few of those
Strike a pose, here I goes, let me compose
A song to get you in my bed

A brain full of passion and a heart full of rage
But I’d leave it all behind me on a smoke filled stage
It was a blessing that I don’t know if I’ll ever really comprehend

I get a strong flavor of the bittersweet
When I’m listening to Avatar or Little Feat
We never knew what we had way back then

But that’s the Grand Lesson that we learn somehow
That all we really have is the Here and Now
But that takes a little longer for a few of us to comprehend

With age comes wisdom and I’m telling you
My ingénue, you start anew, no residue
No bitching or complaining or we bid adieu
No one likes a whiner at a BBQ

The unwritten rules are the ones you follow
Don’t chew on anything that you can’t swallow
Yesterday is just for suckers
Are you listening to me Mother Father

That’s the blessing that comes with age
You learn to read the caption at the bottom of the page
And you pay attention to the little things
Like summer rain, snowflakes and nipple rings

You pick up the signals that you used to miss
Like a subtle glance or a lingering kiss
Or the clouds that gather in her eyes
That say it’s time to compromise

People, hey it’s not too late
The Here and Now we celebrate
Don’t get caught in time delays
We are living it up in the good old days

There is no future, there is no past
There is no long range forecast
Just make it up as you go along
Kind of like this little song
